School Board

The Board of Education is the governing body of Independent School District 192 and is responsible for setting policies that ensure the successful execution of the District's mission.

The six-member Board is also responsible for hiring a superintendent to administer the District's educational program and carryout Board policies, and for setting an annual budget that ensures proper and effective use of public funds.

School Board meetings are held on the second and fourth Mondays of each month beginning at 5:30 p.m. The first meeting of the month is a work session. The second meeting of the month is a business meeting. If there is only one meeting in the month, it is a business meeting. Regular business agenda items include sharing of good news, personnel actions, administrative actions, reports and communications, and policy readings. Board meetings are open to the public unless otherwise noted.

Public Comment & Listening Sessions
There is a public comment period adjacent to each meeting.

At scheduled regular meetings, public comment will be 10 minutes prior to the beginning of the meeting and residents may speak to any issue, including items on the meeting's agenda. The public comment period is a limited public forum and Board Policy 206 governs what type of comments are allowed during the public comment period.

Comments from visitors must be informational in nature and not exceed five (5) minutes per issue. The Board cannot engage in a discussion or debate in those five minutes but will take the information and find answers if that is appropriate. As a part of the protocol, it is unacceptable for any speaker to slander, engage in character assassination, or discuss student or personnel issues (including, but not limited to, teacher, coaches, bus drivers, principals, board members, and administrators) at a public board meeting.

At scheduled work sessions, a listening session will be held no earlier than 6:30 pm and after the conclusion of scheduled Work Sessions at Farmington City Hall. There will be a short recess between the end of the Work Session and Listening Session.
Listening Sessions, guided by Policy 206, are an opportunity for two-way dialogue where community members can speak and board members can seek to understand by asking clarifying questions to verify that they hear the concern, values and vision for our learners.

Participants must complete the Google Form and submit the completed form to Executive Assistant, Lori Jensen, no later than 12 p.m. on the day of the community Listening Session.  If no one registers for the Listening Session by noon, there will be no session that day and cancellation will be noted on the district website.
