School to Begin in Hybrid Model

Dear Farmington Area Families:

Thank you for your patience over the last several weeks as we have worked through constantly changing information and data points to plan for the start of school this fall. As the subject of this message indicates, we will begin the 2020-2021 school year in a hybrid learning model for all grades. This is based on guidance from the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE), the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH), and COVID-19 trend data throughout Dakota County. Please be aware that the learning model may change over the course of the school year depending on the number of COVID-19 cases in our community. As always, we will keep you informed through email, by phone, and via our website.

As I shared in my last email, within the hybrid model we will follow MDH guidance and the MDE guidance including, but not limited to the following:

Limit building occupancy to no more that 50% with sufficient room for social distancing

  • Signage to reinforce social distancing used throughout the building
  •  Flow of traffic into and through the building will be designed around social distancing
  •  No visitors/parents will be allowed in the building without an appointment

Limit room occupancy to no more than 50% with sufficient room for social distancing

  •  High frequency touch points will be sanitized throughout the day
  •  Spaces will be sanitized each night
  •  Rooms will be organized for social distancing

Limit transportation occupancy to no more than 50%

  •  High frequency touch points will be sanitized between routes
  •  Cleaning will take place between morning and afternoon routes and again at night
  •  Students from the same family will be seated together

Cohort Assignments

Cohorts have been designed around the health and safety of learners and staff, keeping families/households on the same schedule, individual learning needs, and transportation. We will not be able to accommodate requests to change cohorts. Families can access their cohort designation now through Campus Portal. If you don’t have access to Campus Portal please see the following link for more information to set up an Infinite Campus account:

The First Week of School

(Back-To-School Nights, Assessment Days, Open Houses, etc.)

The foundation of any learning is relationships. Due to COVID-19 related restrictions, this year we’re not able to have back-to-school nights, open houses, or assessment days. To facilitate the learner/family/staff partnership that is vital to the success of each learner, our first week of school (August 31-September 4) will look different. Assessments will be conducted during the first week of school along with a variety of relationship building opportunities. August 31-September 2 will be Connection Days. Please look for more specific information on Connection Days and other back-to-school activities from your learner’s building soon.

Farmington Academy

Families may choose Farmington Academy, our full time distance learning option, if they prefer. Given the significant amount of reorganization of staff needed to create the Farmington Academy and creating a consistent learning environment for our learners, we ask that families commit to the Farmington Academy through at least the first trimester (November 24, 2020).

You can learn more about Farmington Academy, including calendar information and answers to frequently asked questions, on our website.

We have reopened the distance learning opt-in form. If you would like to sign up for the Farmington Academy, please use this Opt-In Form no later than Sunday, August 9th by 11:59 p.m. After that time, please contact your school’s office.

If you previously opted into Farmington Academy and have changed your mind, please contact your school’s office.

Important Dates to Remember

  •  August 9 — If you plan to opt into Farmington Academy (full time distance learning option), please use this Opt-In Form no later than Sunday, August 9th  by 11:59 p.m. After that time, please contact your school’s office.

Please look for more information later this week regarding transportation. You can review what has previously been shared regarding hybrid learning on our website and more information will be available soon.

We know this is a new and, in many ways, difficult situation for our learners and families. If you or someone you know needs help with food, health, housing or anything else please review our Family Resources page and the Dakota County Community Resources page, or reach out to your school office

There are still details to work out and planning to be done, but I am confident that our caring and dedicated tiger community of staff, learners and families will ensure a strong start to the 2020-2021 school year. Thank you for your ongoing support and patience. #WeAre192 #WeGotThis
